International Day of Families

13 May 2016

If you consider a traditional definition, family are relatives through blood or marriage, but we know really that’s not the case. Families can come in lots of different shapes, sizes and set ups, they’re a unit and your team. In reality, we define family as the most important people in our lives whether they’re blood relatives, your oldest friends or even your pets. Families are a beautiful thing and of course they deserve their very own day to be celebrated!

The United Nations observe the International Day of Families each year of the 15th of May. Started in 1993, the purpose of the day is to raise awareness of the range of social, economic and demographic issues that can affect families globally.

We found this year’s theme of healthy lives and sustainable futures really inspiring and it got us thinking of how we could support this wonderful cause.

There are a lot of wonderful charities out there that are very close to Spaceform’s heart but we decided that given the nature of the occasion the work of Unicef would be most fitted to support this time.

On Sunday, we’re giving 10% of all online sales to Unicef to celebrate the International Day of Families.

The incredible work that Unicef do helps thousands of families and communities all over the world. Unicef are changing lives for good through education, protection and government policy. They receive no funding from the United Nations budget, the work is entirely funded by generous and voluntary donations, which we think is pretty amazing!

You can give directly to Unicef here or if you need some lovely presents, you can stock up, guilt free knowing a proportion of your money is going to this wonderful cause.

We hope you and your family have a lovely weekend, it’s easy to take each other for granted sometimes and this is a great prompt to remember how lucky we all are...
