Life after Graduation

23 July 2015

Congratulations if you have just graduated! Reaching your graduation is such an incredible milestone in your life.  When I graduated from Chelsea College of Art and Design I had absolutely no idea what was coming.  I enjoyed my time immensely, developing the creative process and with access to wood, metal and glass workshops and incredibly skilled technicians. Having focused from project to project and finally the degree show at the end of the course, I had not been aware of the strong sense of identity being a part of art college life had given me, until it was over...

When we were awarded with our degrees, we had no ceremony, I think I only vaguely remember the piece of paper stating my grade, but no hat and gown for us.  The highs and lows of reaching this end point are still vivid, and then the stark barren tumbleweed of nothing... or so it was for me!

A few months later the ex Dean of our college invited me to do some work for his company which I snapped up in an instant.  It was for a few weeks for next to no pay and long hours, but it help me immensely.  Being around people that are not only creative but real doers, put me on my feet and gave me a real sense of self worth to find my way.

Shortly after, I started up my own business and set up my own workshop with my friend Jane which became known as Spaceform.  We took a risk and it was worth it... the rest is history, well its history personal to me!

Now its our turn. We would love to help one of you transition from college to work by offering a 3 month work experience placement to help with the diverse creative, commercial side of our business, with the opportunity of a job at the end, either part or full time. We are are based in South West London and a very small close knit team of four.

If you are interested in finding out more please contact chris@spaceform.com and we will get back to you as soon as we are able.  All the very best from all of us here and good luck with your new start.
